You will take an exam which has many questions with multiple choices. The exam usually takes about 3 1/2 hours . If you get high score in this exam you will be in good position as a firefighter .
There are 6 different types for the questions:
1- Testing reasoning and judgement
2- Testing your experience in mechanical tools
3- How do you deal with the people
4- Tools and firefighters gear
5- Questions that test your ability in math and science
6- comprehension questions
The questions are different in every state.
You can get high score in these exams by buying a firefighter books or by online exams about how to become a firefighter. You should study hard for this exam for winning the coveted badge
You will take a test about relations like problem solving, quick decisions and memory tests. When you pass these tests you will face the physical tests and you have to prove that you're the one who can do this job.
You have to put in your mind that when you come to apply for this job , you will be in a great competition because there are many people apply for it and they all with to be firefighters and they are all powerful, tough and smart and that what community wants. But you can beat them by preparing for these tests and being fit for it.
There are many participants in this job so you must show all what you have to stand out from all of them.
There are some ways and certifications that will make you special between all the participants like:
1- Having a paramedic license
2- Experience in fire investigation , and having specialized training certificate.
3- Having an EMT certificate and experience will enhance your chances for winning this job . If you worked before in a hospital or you were an EMT, it would give you a good chance because when you work as a firefighter will receive many emergency calls from people who are endanger.

4- speaking more than a language Many of the fire department prefers the firefighters who speak more than one language and this can make a great difference for you between the candidates.
5- If you were a volunteer in a fire department , you would get some experience and this will help you in your tests . you can go to the nearest fire department and learn some experience from the firefighter and ask them how to become a firefighter and learn about what may come in the exams and how to get prepared for them .
